Government to give priority to human capital growth

KUALA LUMPUR: Human capital development will be given priority through transformation in education, enhancement in skills training and making life-long learning a culture, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said human capital development was an important factor to the country’s economy, adding that the supply and quality of its workforce would drive it forward for the long-term.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said to ensure that the diverse skills and expertise required by the industries were met, agencies had been tasked to come out with training programmes.

He said to meet the needs of talent for Malaysia’s economic transformation, Talent Corporation (TalentCorp) had been created and given the mandate to spearhead efforts to deliver quality and sufficient human resource.

He also stressed it was equally important for public agencies and departments to be fully aware of problems faced by the private sector in order to take necessary steps.

This, the Deputy Prime Minister said, could contribute towards improving the business climate and the performance of the public sector delivery system.

On the recent Barisan Nasional’s victories in the Kerdau and Merlimau by-elections, Muhyiddin said these were testimonies of the public’s and the business community’s growing confidence in the Government’s commitment and efforts towards enhancing the country’s economy.

“The bigger majorities was due to the positive belief that the current Barisan government is able to deliver programmes that touch on the priorities and needs of the rakyat and businesses.”

At the event, Muhyiddin also witnessed a RM500,000 donation by George Kent (M) Berhad to MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek for the 1MCA Medical Foundation.

George Kent is an engineering group principally involved in the manufacturing of water meters and components, brass and industrial products. — Bernama
