KUALA SELANGOR: The Government is aware of the people’s concerns over bread-and-butter issues, said Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The Prime Minister said the Government constantly monitored the basic needs of the people so they could live comfortably.
“We know what the people want. One is for the cost of living to not rise too drastically. Two is affordable housing.
“Three, the availability of education and healthcare, and four, affordable transportation,” Najib said at the launch of the Nadi Kasih programme, which is intended to improve the quality of life for the underprivileged in rural areas.
The programme is part of 1Malaysia Development Board’s (1MDB) corporate social responsibility.
Yesterday, 100 primary pupils and another 100 secondary students from Tanjong Karang respectively received RM450 and RM650 each.
1MDB would also repair 10,000 dilapidated houses over a period of two years.
“Why did we start in Tanjong Karang? Because we must start at the strong fortress of Barisan Nasional. From this fortress, the effects will spread to all corners of Selangor,” Najib said.
Najib, who is also Selangor Umno liaison chairman, made clear his intention to wrest the state from Pakatan Rakyat and said he hoped the trend of Barisan winning by-elections, which started with Bagan Pinang, would continue.
“The majority in Merlimau was even higher than in the 2004 general election. If the people are unhappy with Barisan, why is our majority rising?” he said.
