KUALA LUMPUR: About 76,200 graduates are still unemployed because they do not possess job hunting skills and are too dependent on others to convey information about job opportunities.
Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Maznah Mazlan said based on a study by the Labour Department which was done through the JobStreet Malaysia website on 1,994 respondents, 77.14 percent said they needed a mentor or coach to facilitate them on ways to find jobs.
"According to the survey, only 42.59 percent respondents agreed that graduates should not have problems in finding jobs, compared to 57.41 percent who admitted having problems to find jobs.
"This clearly shows that a lack of information and job hunting skills contribute to their failure in getting jobs," she said in response to a question by Senator Khoo Soo Seang in Dewan Negara, here Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said 70 percent of schools nationwide had at least one computer lab under the School Computerization Lab project and the initiative would be continued under the 10th Malaysian Plan (10MP) to schools that do not have such facilities. - Bernama
