Malaysian candidates not satisfied with recruitment process

Only 39 percent of Malaysian job seekers are satisfied with the current job hiring process, according to the Kelly Global Workforce Index (KGWI) conducted by Kelly Services.

In fact, the results of the survey revealed that Malaysian candidates have the lowest satisfaction with hiring processes compared to any other region in Asia Pacific. In comparison, 59 percent of jobseekers in Thailand said they were satisfied, followed by 50 percent in Singapore, and 45 percent in Indonesia.

The top cited reasons for this dissatisfaction were a lack of communication on job applications and interviews, and a lack of clear information in job advertisements.

Managing director of Kelly Services Malaysia and India Kamal Karanth said, “The job application and hiring process is typically a candidate’s first experience with an organisation, and a chance for a firm to showcase how it functions and how it treats its people. Understandably, candidates have high expectations which are sometimes overlooked in the process of selecting the best talent.”

Things seem to turn around after being hired, however. When asked their opinion about their employers after an initial 90 days, 47 percent of them were “definitely” positive about their organisation, while 40 percent were “somewhat” positive.

The survey also found that Malaysians were not as active jobseekers as compared to their global counterparts with 57 percent of Malaysians having applied for a new job in the previous year compared to APAC at 67 percent and globally at 73 percent.
