PETALING JAYA: Students bewildered by the seemingly limitless options of pre-university programmes after SPM can visit the Star Education Fair next weekend.
Sunway College Pre-University Studies director and Sunway International School executive director Cheng Mien Wee, who will be giving a talk at the fair, will guide students through the various internationally recognised pre-u programmes.
“Many Form Four and Five students are undecided on which pre-u programmes to choose as there are many options available.
“Sunway College alone offers five programmes, each of which is suited to certain learning styles and aspirations,” she said, adding that participating in learning style profiling and a career aptitude test would also be helpful in determining the best programme.
Another speaker, KDU University College head of the School of Pre-University Studies Sathyavathy Rasanayagam, will present a talk on programmes in preparation for entering universities in Britain and Australia.
“There are many things to consider when it comes to doing A-Levels before going to Britain, such as subject options and how to enrol in the top notch universities.
“I will also be talking about what Australian universities look for in students, both in terms of academics and extra curricular activities,” she said, adding that she would also touch on finance options for the programmes.
For students who have a clear career path in mind and interested in pursuing a foundation programme, they should attend the talk by Heriot-Watt University Malaysia Assistant Professor for Foundation Programmes, Mohanaraj Balakrishnan.
“Foundation, whether in science or business, may be a more effective means to a degree in terms of time and cost without compromising on knowledge.
“It is a highly tailored programme that delivers the essentials necessary to get through a degree,” he said, adding that this translated to less stress and knowledge burden.
The talk on Options After SPM – Choosing the Right Pre-University Programmes & Subject Options will be held on the first day of the fair from 11.30am to 1pm.
The Star Education Fair 2014, which is open from 11am-7pm, will be held on June 14 and 15 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Admission is free. For more information, call 03-7967 1388 ext 1233/1240/1436.
