It’s not just the lure of money

PETALING JAYA: While higher salaries are a “pull factor”, Malaysian professionals working overseas also look at other factors before deciding to come home, according to the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF).

MEF executive director Shamsuddin Bardan said the professionals consider factors such as quality of life, security, public transportation and better education opportunities for their children.

“These and other factors need to be improved to increase their confidence to return to the country to work,” he said yesterday.

Kelly Services marketing director for Singapore and Malaysia Jeannie Khoo said that some Malaysians opted to leave the country to gain regional experience, apart from a higher salary.

“If multinational companies based here can provide Malaysians the opportunity to work overseas for a short period within their organisation, it will be a win-win situation for both parties,” she said, adding that the individuals could share their knowledge later.
