5 awesome on-screen dads

It’s that time of the year again when we take a moment to show our appreciation for our old man, be it with gifts, kindness, or with some good, plain, quality time. While we each have our own unique interaction with our parents, it can also be very refreshing to see the different types of dads and parenting that come up on the silver screen.

So, in honour of Father’s Day this year, we’ve put together some of cinema’s most adorable father figures together here.

Which one is your dad?

The moral justice dad: The wise one. The one that teaches you what’s right, what’s wrong, and how to face injustice.

“…it's never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is, it doesn't hurt you.” - Atticus Finch, How To Kill A Mockingbird

The cool-as-a-cat dad: Laid back and chilled. But if you cross the line with them, out comes their inner lion.

“I’d take a bullet for you. That’s how I am, that’s how I role”- Dad, Easy A

The trying-to-get-it-right dad: He may be all over the place at times, but you can’t help but love him for trying.

“Now it's my turn. I'm thinking of something dark and mysterious. It's a fish we don't know. If we ask it directions, it could ingest us and spit out our bones.”- Marlin, Finding Nemo

The full-of-conviction dad: The dad that keeps to his promise, even if it means kidnapping a dead body.

“There's two kinds of people in this world, there's winners and there's losers. Okay, you know what the difference is? Winners don't give up.” Richard Hoover, Little Miss Sunshine

The bad-boy dad: He doesn’t play by the rules. He serves you the truth about the real world without the sugar coats.

“Tool up, honey bunny. It's time to get bad guys.” – Damon Macready (Big Daddy), Kickass

And what list of dads would be complete without this particular role model:

The in-case-you-didn’t-know dad: You fight him endlessly, until he suddenly quips this:

“I am your father” – Darth Vader, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
