While bean bags and bright colours may define some people’s version of an awesome working environment, our next office would probably appeal to all the geekaholics of Malaysia.
Fusionex is an established multi-award winning IT software group that deals with analytics, processing big data into digestible chunks for their clients. With such a culture, naturally, their new office layout located in the heart of Petaling Jaya revolves around one common theme: superheroes.
“This office is designed by the people, for the people,” explained Fusionex managing director Ivan Teh. “All the unique elements in the Fusionex office is a manifestation of the sheer energy levels and creativity of our people.”

The concept of Fusionex
Walking through this spacious masterpiece of an office, Teh greets us at the entrance to Fusionex, which for the record, is outrageously spacious – and for a good reason.
The Fusionex lobby houses a large projector screening area.
The lobby, which could easily fit a badminton court, or a couple of sedans even, is equipped with a larger-than-life projected screen which spans almost the entire length of the wall.
This area is often transformed into a presentation ground for potential clients, using the big space to visualise their big ideas. And during the sports season, on the other hand, the TV is utilised by the employees for other apt purposes.

Meeting rooms at Fusionex are labelled not by the usual company core values, or types of flowers, but with the names of the world’s most famous superheroes. From Iron-Man to Superman to Bumblebee, each of these discussion cum meeting rooms are designed with complimenting designs and wallpapers, some complete with original figurines of the corresponding superheroes.
“Why the concept of superheroes? Well, Fusionex is the office of superheroes – a place where anyone who strives to accomplish amazing things is considered a superhero in his/her own right,” says Teh. “We want to recognize the contributions and qualities that Fusionexians demonstrate.”

The Fantastic Four room comprises of one giant rectangular training room with each Fantastic Four character positioned at one corner. Upon the need for more rooms, partitions can be rolled down, thus creating four fantastic rooms for utilisation.
As we walk further into the 40,000 sqft office, we come across the Innovation Gateway – a futuristic spaceship-like pod with somewhat of a virtual-reality projecting capability. The pod, which had to be assembled on-site, is used for presentations and brainstorming sessions for the latest innovations.
“We wanted all our meeting rooms, all the common areas to be unique. We wanted each place to have its own character and its own attributes. That really defines what Fusionex is all about – we’re all about experiencing excellence! ” says Teh.

Employees at Fusionex enjoy an extent of flexibility at their workplace.
The Loft.
“Our people are results-oriented. We place a heavy emphasis on providing comfort and flexibility to them in terms of working environment, where staff are encouraged to ‘work hard and play hard’, not just outside the office, but also in the office,” says Teh.
To cater to this culture, Fusionex has incorporated a rather conducive work environment.
Nightly meals are provided for the employees who stay back after hours, and this dinner buffet takes place in their chic urban cafeteria nicknamed The Loft.
Fusionex also houses a small gym, with showers built next door, and to top it all off, the company provides a quiet and cosy resting room with two beds, for employees who need to take a power nap as a break from their constant programming or general work.
Literally a rest-room, this area is dedicated to employees seeking a refreshing power nap.
A cool office isn't complete without a games room.
And for those who prefer to blow off some steam instead, there’s always the games room, complete with an electronic jukebox, pool table, foosball table and an electronic dartboard.
A children’s nursery with padded flooring and illustrative murals is included in the office layout. More of a supportive measure, this facility is catered for parents who may have difficulty making arrangements for their kids from time to time. A babysitter will be provided by the management upon advanced request.
The Fusionex office comes complete with an entertainment hub for its employees.
Perhaps the most impressive of these facilities is the media or AV room, which upon first sight resembles a mini cinema. In truth, this room functions as much more than a cinema, with an option of watching sports matches, movies, video gaming, and comes equipped with a karaoke machine.
Besides that, to foster employee engagement and collaboration, the management goes the extra mile to organise regular birthday celebrations, family days, company trips, and occasional festive nights for the employees.
